What Can We Do About Anti-Asian Racism?
May 5, 2021
A new installment in the CAN/DID Inclusion Series offers a set of tools that we can all use to counteract racism, particularly anti-Asian scapegoating during the coronavirus pandemic.
Successful strategies include speaking out, developing bystander skills and cultivating empathy, Mae Lee, instructor and chair of Asian American and Asian Studies, explains in the video.
Also in the video, De Anza Student Government president Katelyn Pan talks about work that the DASG is doing to support students.
“Bringing people together in community and knowing they’ve got each other’s backs ... that’s the culture and legacy that De Anza has,” adds Tony Santa Ana, program coordinator in the Office of Equity, Social Justice and Multicultural Education.
The new video is being released ahead of this Friday’s multiracial panel discussion, focusing on perspectives from Asian American and Asian Studies. The panel is part of an online event series hosted by the Intercultural and International Studies Division.
