From the President
Thank You
Nov. 24, 2021
Dear Colleagues,
I know that we are all looking forward to a brief break and to celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday. Time has gone by so quickly, and my husband, David, and I can hardly believe that this is our second Thanksgiving in California. On a personal note, I am grateful for the fulfilling lives we have built here in the area — and I have been thrilled to be able to engage more with our regional community on behalf of the college as we evolve from the pandemic.
I am deeply grateful for the students of De Anza College, and for each and every one of you. I appreciate the thoughtfulness with which our classified professionals, faculty and administrators are approaching transitioning more classes and services back to campus while continuing to serve students well online.
The complexity of doing both strikes me in particular during this holiday that is such a duality. While we all enjoy the opportunity to be with family and friends, Thanksgiving is at the same time a painful reminder of injustice, colonialism and genocide. Thank you to the Office of Equity, the Intercultural/International Studies Division and others for educating about this. Thank you to Office of Communications for creating and promoting the CAN/DID series land dedication video honoring the Ohlone Nation.
I wish you a wonderful holiday, and the very best when we return to work together more on return-to-campus plans that meet the needs of our students. Thanks to all of you.
With gratitude,
Lloyd
