Return to Campus Planning

Dear Colleagues,
I want to write you today about return-to-campus planning, but must first acknowledge the tragedy of this morning's mass shooting in San Jose. I know you join me in keeping the victims and their loved ones in our thoughts and hearts. This is yet another episode of senseless gun violence, and trauma that reverberates well beyond individuals and locality. Thank you for your sensitivity toward students affected directly or indirectly by today's events. Please refer them to Psychological Services for assistance, including a support group meeting already scheduled for this afternoon to help students process this tragedy.
My original intention in writing you had been to note that we continue our return-to-campus planning in the rapidly changing environment of this period of the pandemic. I hope, if you are able, that you will attend Chancellor Miner's meeting on this topic shortly, at 2 p.m.
As you may be aware, we have just completed a survey of students planning to return in the fall, and there is much interesting feedback from them. It's noteworthy that we had almost 4,000 responses to the survey, for a remarkable response rate of 25%. And it's positive news that 76% of students responding have been vaccinated. I know we will be discussing the survey results across the college, and look forward to the districtwide employee survey to further inform our planning. Thank you for your work as we wind down spring quarter and celebrate graduation -- and continue to best meet the needs of our students in this changing environment. Once again, thank you for keeping the victims of today's mass shooting, and their loved ones, in your thoughts.
