Winter Club Day
Winter Club Day is this Thursday, Jan. 25! Stop by the Sunken Garden from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for information, entertainment and
more. Meet representatives from more than 50 clubs or speak with Inter Club Council members about starting your own club! The event is free and open to all. Favianna Rodriguez to Visit Campus This Week
Favianna Rodriguez, an artist, activist and contributor to one of the featured books in this year’s Silicon Valley Reads campaign, will visit campus this Wednesday, Jan. 24, to speak with students in CHLX 10: Introduction to Chicanx and Latinx Studies, taught
by Alicia Cortez. The event will take place from 10-11 a.m. in MLC 109 and is open to all.
Rodriguez will return to campus for the Silicon Valley Reads kickoff on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. Silicon Valley Reads is an annual community reading campaign that hosts a variety of events centered around a specific theme. This year’s theme – "A Greener Tomorrow Starts Today" – focuses on books and activities that highlight environmental sustainability.
The kickoff will take place in the VPAC and will feature four writers and activists whose work aligns with this year’s theme. Please register to attend in person or to watch the livestream through the Commonwealth Club of Silicon Valley. While the event begins at 7 p.m., a related art exhibit, “Sacred Terrain,” will be open for viewing in the Euphrat Museum from 6-7 p.m. and after the program until 9 p.m. Admission is free for both the kickoff and the museum.
Donate Blood in the Campus Center
This Thursday, Jan. 25, Student Health Services is hosting the Winter Blood Drive in partnership with the Stanford Blood Center. You can donate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Conference Rooms A & B by walking in or by making an appointment. For more information contact Monica Galaviz at mgalaviz@stanford.edu.

New FAFSA for 2024-25
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been improved and streamlined for 2024-25. There are some important changes
that you’ll want to know about, if you’re applying for financial aid for next year – including a new deadline to apply for Cal Grants. You can find information about the changes, plus helpful tips and videos, by visiting deanza.edu/financialaid/apply/new-fafsa.
University Pathway Scholarships
Remember to check Academic Works for scholarships that can help you pay for school! The University Pathway Scholarship awards $3,000 each quarter, for up to three years, to selected De Anza students who are planning to transfer to a university. Find more information, including a complete list of scholarships,
and submit an application at fhda.academicworks.com.
Employee Spotlight
Award-Winning Village Shirt
The Office of Communications has won a gold Medallion Award from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, which gave its top award for logo wear to the design for De Anza’s 2023 Welcome Day T-shirts. The shirts were created by senior graphic designer Edwin Carungay and feature a custom design for each Guided Pathways Village. Students, faculty and staff were able to grab a shirt for their village this past
Welcome Day.
The office also won two bronze Medallion Awards for the college’s Community Education Summer Academy Catalog and VTA bus advertisements.
Kaufman to Speak at UC Berkeley
Cynthia Kaufman, director of the Vasconcellos Institute for Democracy in Action (VIDA), will be part of a virtual UC Berkeley town hall panel this Friday, Jan. 27, from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
The town hall event, “What We Say, What They Hear: How to Talk Politics and History in the Era of Cancel Culture,” is part of the Berkeley Osher Lifelong Learning Institute series of events.
