Highlights
De Anza Advances in Aspen Contest
De Anza College has advanced to the next stage in a prestigious national competition sponsored by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, which has invited President Lloyd Holmes to take part in a leadership interview in early March. Last fall, the program named De Anza as one of the nation's top 150 community colleges, which were then eligible to enter a $1 million contest on the basis of college performance in teaching, learning, equity and other factors.
The Aspen Institute program will consider results from the leadership interview along with a detailed application and data submitted by the college, before naming 25 semifinalists for the contest in April.
English Instructor Publishes New Book
English instructor Lita Kurth has a new book for aspiring writers and anyone who wants to unlock their inner storytelling abilities. “One Creative Writing Prompt a Day” provides a year’s worth of daily prompts designed to boost creativity as well as sharpen basic writing skills, including description, exposition, narration, dialogue, plot and more.
Kurth, who teaches creative writing at De Anza, has honed her own technique by writing fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry. Her new book is published by Callisto and distributed by Simon and Schuster.
