Important Dates
Indigenous Peoples’ Day
Today, Oct. 14, marks Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We recognize and honor the diversity and contributions of Indigenous people – today and every day. You can read President Biden's proclamation about the day on the White House website.
Undocumented Student Action Week
Undocumented Student Action Week starts today, Oct. 14, and runs through Friday, Oct. 18. The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, the Foundation for California Community Colleges and the Community College League of California will be holding webinars throughout the week to advocate for undocumented students. Attendees should register in advance.
HEFAS will also be holding several events this week and is a supporter of the UndocuCON at Santa Clara University this Friday, Oct. 18. They have also put up a "wall of dreams" on the south side of the Library, next to the Pride Center, that will stay up until Thursday.
Heritage Months
Filipino American Heritage Events Start Tomorrow
October is Filipino American Heritage Month. To celebrate, IMPACT AAPI, International Student Programs, Office of Equity and PUSO are holding a variety of events, starting tomorrow, Oct. 15, with a presentation from the Pilipino Association of Workers and Immigrants (PAWIS) Youth. Other events include a Halo Halo mixer, film screening, author panel and more. Find more information on the Office of Equity website.
Latinx Heritage Events Continue
While Latinx or Raza Heritage Month officially ends on Oct. 15, you can still find more events to celebrate Latinx heritage in October by visiting the Office of Equity events webpage.
Transfer Day
Meet University Representatives This Thursday
Transfer Day is this Thursday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. on the Main Quad. You can meet with representatives from the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses and private, out-of-state and international universities. Please sign up to attend and view the schedule on the Transfer Center website.
Underground Scholars Information Sessions
As part of Transfer Day, you can attend two information sessions about the Underground Scholars programs at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz, which support currently or formerly incarcerated students and those who are otherwise affected by the criminal justice system. This program helps students navigate the transfer process by offering resources such as academic advising, mentorship, and workshops. The information sessions will take place on Zoom and will not be recorded. Please register in advance.
Upcoming Events
Business Conference and Case Study Competition
The Women in Business Club, Future Business Leaders of America Club and Distributive Education Clubs of America will be hosting a business conference this Friday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., that will include a transfer panel, guest speakers and networking. They will also host a case study competition the next day, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., where students will form teams to solve real-world business problems. Both events will take place in Conference Rooms A & B and students can earn a certificate of completion for attending both events. Please RSVP by this Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 11:59 p.m.
Diwali Celebration on Campus
Everyone’s invited to the De Anza Diwali celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Main Quad from 2:30-5:30 p.m. This campus cultural event will include food, dancing, music and more. Learn more by visiting deanza.edu/apasa/diwali, where you can sign up to attend or volunteer to help out!
Resource Hub
Cold Weather Clothing Drive
The Resource Hub is collecting donations of new or gently used coats, jackets, sweaters, beanies, gloves and socks for students who need them. Please bring your items for donation to RSS 143 no later than Nov. 15, so they can be distributed on Nov. 21-22. For more information and Resource Hub hours, please visit deanza.edu/resources/hub.
