Reminder–Your Academic Status
Dear Student,
We’re writing to remind you that you’re on academic probation status this quarter, because your cumulative Grade Point Average is below 2.0. While this could delay you in reaching your academic goals, we're confident that you can get back on track!
You can do it! We believe you can raise your GPA, but it’s important that you meet with an academic counselor to discuss your situation and develop a plan. For this reason, a registration hold has been placed on your student account, which will prevent you from registering for spring classes until you have met with a counselor.
An academic counselor can assist you with:
- Personal counseling to explore what may be preventing your college progress
- Choosing the right major based on your interests, skills, and career or transfer goals
- Creating an educational plan that works for your schedule
- Additional support throughout your time at De Anza College
Let’s get you back on track! Here’s how you can have your registration hold removed:
- First: Meet with an academic counselor.
-
- If you are part of program or Learning Community that has its own counselors, you should speak with the counselor for your program. This includes programs such as Disability Support Services, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), International Student Programs (ISP), First Year Experience (FYE), Puente, Umoja or Veteran Services. You can see the complete list at deanza.edu/our-counselors.
- If you’re not in a program that has its own counselors, you can click here to schedule an appointment with an Academic Awareness counselor.
-
- Second: Complete the Academic Awareness student survey to help us identify ways to assist you.
Need money for college? You may qualify for additional support:
- Bookstore vouchers: Students on academic or progress probation can apply these toward the cost of textbooks. Use the online form to request a Bookstore voucher.
- Scholarship opportunity: The Strength Through Adversity Scholarship is designed for students who show persistence in working toward their goals, despite being on academic or progress probation. Find more information and apply online via AcademicWorks.
