Review/Approve notes October 17, 2022, meeting.
The group reviewed and approved the notes.
Fireside Room Update
Acoustical Panels
An update was shared about the acoustic panels on the walls of the Fireside Room. Pictures were shared of the existing acoustic panels and there will be new shapes and colors for new panels which will be reviewed by the committee later. An acoustical engineer reviewed the old panels and new panels are recommended. District Facilities will remove the old panels and a vendor will replace with new. There was a question about how clubs and other student groups can book the space for meetings and events. The contact person for booking the room is Patrick Gannon, Director of Dining Services. The room is open Monday-Thursday from 7:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. The doors in the Fireside Room have been updated to the current D master series keys. College Life expressed interest in having current locks updated to the D master series. College Life can submit a ETS Lock Shop request, and it will be reviewed for approval and funding will be determined.
Zoom Space (student access times)
Zoom spaces have been created for students for Zoom classes while on site. The spaces were a result of Covid-19 mitigation efforts so students can take in person classes and easily transition to an in person or hybrid class while being on campus. The Zoom spaces are shown on the De Anza campus map for easy location. Power bars (tables with electrical outlets) were also installed in fireside and lobby area of the Campus Center; and zoom pods (with electrical outlets) are in Fireside and ATC.
Campus Center Painting Update – Lower Level
The campus is obtaining proposals through District Facilities for painting the lower level of the Campus Center. The Facilities Department will manage and run the project.
Letter Of Interest between the County of Santa Clara and Foothill-De Anza Community College District – BOT item #2 – November 7, 2022
Information was shared about a Letter of Interest that went to the Board from the County of Santa Clara. A preliminary conversation to explore the option of the County building a medical facility on the campus will result from the Letter of Interest. Information will be brought forward through the Board, and it was encouraged for everyone to follow the progress on the Board of Trustees webpage. It was shared by a member of the committee that the information is very helpful in understanding this is a completed separate item from the Bond program. There was a question from faculty regarding the benefit to the college and to the district and if a location has been proposed. It was shared it is very early in the process so the benefit to the college is unknown at this time. A proposed location is parking Lot B.
Measure G Bond Projects Update
A list of Bond projects and information was shared. Everyone was encouraged to look at the Measure G webpage for this information and for updates.
Projects include:
Project 201 - Upgrade Fire Alarm/Suppression Systems
Project 202 - New Services for Students Building
Project 204 – Converting Existing Facility to Beach Volleyball
Project 212 – Modernize Building Interiors and Exteriors
- Project 213 came out of Project 212 as a stand-alone project to renovate the campus restrooms – S2, S6 and L5.
Project 509 – De Anza Event Center
Information Sharing/Quick News
A question was asked if there was any timeline or update on the DASG Club Room repairs. The campus is waiting for a timeline from District Facilities.
A question was asked about the Prayer/Meditation room in the Campus Center and if it is a reservable space. The room is not bookable and is open to all.
College Operations shared there are 2 locations on campus identified for tree removal. E3 and between PE1 and PE2. The trees near E3 have roots that have grown underneath the slab of the buildings and were found in the flooring, as well as water infiltration inside the building. The trees between PE 1 and PE 2 have grown up the side of the building and infiltrated the roof (broken roof tiles and cracked wall stucco were found). An arborist has been engaged and will work with professionals to safely remove the trees.
The next meeting for the Campus Center Advisory Board will be May 1, 2023.
