    Outdoor Bicycle Storage Project

    Lockwood is launching an outdoor bike storage project and forming a focus group to assess the campus community’s bicycle usage. Images showing various bike storage solutions on campus were shared. Measure C funds will be utilized to introduce permanent storage options, potentially including bike lockers, in locations beneficial to all. Lockwood encouraged everyone to share this information among the constituent groups. Individuals interested in contributing ideas should contact Lockwood. The first meeting is scheduled for March 14, 2024.


    Campus Center New Food Pantry Location

    Floor plans and photographs of the lower level of the campus center were shared. Before the onset of Covid-19 the Le Café coffee shop occupied the space adjacent to the EOPS office and the Office of College Life. The space has been vacant for several years. The college would like to repurpose this space by relocating the food pantry currently housed in the Outreach office within the RSS building. The current location of the Food Pantry is inadequate in size, prompting the proposal to shift the pantry to this available area, providing a larger more accessible space. The plan involves a minor refresh of the area before relocating the pantry to better serve approximately 300 students.

    The proposal received positive feedback from the group, with no objections.


    Creative Arts Presentation for Measure G/Flint Demo

    A presentation was shared, originally presented to the Creative Arts Division outlining forthcoming construction projects. The presentation encompassed the Flint Center demolition and the construction timeline, detailing information about soft and hard demolition phases. Improvements in the area will commence later in the fall.  The contractor is expected to be approved at this evening’s board meeting. Affected areas include the Campus Center, the Cottages, the MLC, and the Baldwin Winery areas. Efforts have included collaboration with individuals impacted in these areas.   

    Other projects in progress and on the horizon include:

    • Relocation of the telecom near RSS; target completion in spring.
    • Upgrade of flat roof in L1; target start in the summer.
    • Beach Volleyball Project: impact will be mostly around the Kirsch building area.
    • S2/S6/L5 Restroom Renovation; converting restrooms to all gender.
    • Roofing Projects: target start in the spring 2025.

    Measure G Bond Program Update February 12, 2024 – Board Meeting

    Information Sharing/Quick News

    The proposed Santa Clara County Medical Center has sparked numerous inquiries about the project. Grey assembled a list of questions regarding the medical center and presented them to Santa Clara County. The county has provided responses to these questions and the document has been discussed at College Council and is being shared here.  If there are further inquiries not covered in the document, please forward them to Pam Grey or Pippa Gibson.

    Faculty inquired about the rationale behind proposing the Medical Center location in Lot B instead of Lot A. It was explained that constructing a building in Lot A would entail significant disruption to campus infrastructure, including underground utilities. Lot B was chosen because it would have the least impact on existing utilities compared to other locations.
