Re: College Council Personnel Hiring Recommendations
Date: February 7, 2025
Thank you for your recent recommendations made in support of eight (8) instructional and two (2) non-instructional positions through our governance process on January 30, 2025 that were commensurate with the amazing work previously completed by our Resource Allocation and Program Planning (RAPP) committee. My purpose in writing today is to first let you know that I am grateful for all of the work considered by both the council and the RAPP committee that led up to the buckets of hiring recommendations that will help strategically position our college for the future, as we continue to reimagine the best ways to support the evolving needs of our students and communities.
Based on your input, I am recommending to our Chancellor that we move forward with filling the following 8 instructional and 2 non-instructional positions:
Instructional Positions
High Priority
Bucket 1 | Bucket 2 |
---|---|
Biology | Humanities |
Business | Math |
Chemistry | Music |
Comparative Ethnic Studies | |
Track & Field/ Cross Country Coach |
Non-Instructional Positions
High Priority
Bucket 1 |
---|
Associate Dean of Learning Communities |
HEFAS Counselor |
In addition, the RAPP committee recommended to College Council several unsorted high priority instructional positions, including (in alphabetical order): a second Chemistry, CIS, CIS (second position), Design and Manufacturing Technology, Geography, Political Science and Visual Arts & Design. Based on the present and future identified needs of our college and workforce coupled with identified sector priorities set forth by our Bay Area Community College Consortium, I will also be recommending one (1) additional instructional position for Design and Manufacturing Technology that is intended to focus on industrial automation.
Lastly, the RAPP committee also recommended to College Council several unsorted high priority non-instructional positions, including (in alphabetical order): a custodial supervisor, dual enrollment counselor, faculty coordinator of student activities, general counselor, math performance success counselor, and a transfer counselor. I will be working with our Chancellor, district Business Services office, and college Administrative Services office to monitor the college's ongoing budget in preparation for the 2025-2026 Adopted Budget while considering emerging budgetary information from the Governor's office to determine if we might possibly move forward with a mid-year hire to fill the Dual Enrollment Counselor to begin sometime in winter/spring 2026.
As we look to the future to:
- create a college-going culture across our TK-12 districts,
- expand opportunities for high school students to enroll at our college through dual enrollment, and
- support the Governor's Multi-Year Roadmap for California Community Colleges and his Master Plan for Career Education,
this position will be critical to help lead and facilitate this work. I anticipate to inform College Council of this finalized decision during the upcoming fall 2025 quarter.
Once more, thank you all for your service to our students and your forward-thinking vision to support our college in making these recommendations for my consideration.
Sincerely,
Omar
