Report Out from Constituent Groups
Continued discussion at College Council on a shared campuswide budget committee. Need for a campuswide review and plan for allocation of funding outside of the VP silos. Overarching question would be where should the college allocate funding i.e. Custodial, counselors, instructional faculty, etc? In light of cleaning concerns Mahato shared that the college uses Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) cleaning standards from APPA’s Custodial Staffing Guidelines for Educational Facilities.
We have 24 positions currently in custodial; 6 positions currently in grounds/landscape maintenance; existing square footage of cleanable space is 665,394 square feet; existing landscape area (minus the building footprints) 77.85 acres (or 3.391 million square feet). With this staffing level the college's current ability to clean falls in level 5 Unkempt Neglect. Change needs to happen in this area. To staff at level 1 Orderly Spotlessness we would need to spend $11M to fund an additional 55 custodians and an additional 62 grounds crew. Additional cleaning can be funded by CARES Act HEERF II funds.
College Council are looking into setting up a Budget Task Force participatory governance group that will review the budget from a holistic campus wide perspective and report to College Council.
Co-chairs shard their appreciation to the members for serving on the APBT this year. The team extends special thanks to the students reps Jeffery and Anthony who have done an outstanding job representing the students. It has been a privilege to have you on the APBT and the team wishes you a fond farewell as you continue your education outside of De Anza.
