Qualitative Equity Focused Hiring:
Heidi introduced an activity designed to inspire the creation of Equity Based Qualitative Criteria for Position Prioritization. The Padlet application was primed with some criteria/questions that were collected during “Criteria Discussion” begun at the November 17, 2020 IPBT meeting. IPBT members and their guests were asked to add more criteria/questions to these. In addition, participants could award thumbs up or thumbs down or leave comments on the criteria/questions that others posted. As long as one is not logged into Padlet, the responses, comments and thumbs up/down are anonymous.
Padlet activity will remain open until Thursday, February 25 @ 9:00am. IPBT members and guests were encouraged to add their ideas for criteria and to rate those there. Heidi will take these criteria/questions and present them to us in a format that will assist us in deciding on final criteria that could be a qualitative part of the process used to prioritize positions.
Christina announced that as of now there will be at least five faculty positions open by the end of this academic year. Christina proposed that we as a team commit some of our positions (percentage/number to be decided later) to hiring faculty that are specific to our equity goals. These positions might include faculty in cohort programs or instructional delivery in ethnic studies. The majority (23 members) of IPBT members voted in favor of adopting this process.
A topic of discussion at the College Council meeting to be held this Thursday, February 25, 2021 will be centered on what a different shared governance might look like for our campus. Mary P will send out the Zoom link to IPBT members and guests.
All full-time faculty in Nursing teach in a single specialized area of Nursing. Thus, there is an immediate need for a replacement for Sandra Diaz’s position. Erik W proposed that when a position is vacated in Nursing, there would be an automatic approval to move forward with replacing the faculty member. A vote was taken and the majority (22 voting members) so approved. Note that this automatic approval would not apply to new Nursing positions.
